ABOUT US - History

OCTANe was incorporated in the fall of 2002. It was created based on the almost uniform belief that Orange County is not exactly "clicking on all cylinders." There's a lot of good activity happening, but there's no cohesion like you see in San Diego or Silicon Valley.

Orange County is a relatively new county in Southern California. It's an extremely diverse economy driven by tourism and real estate in addition to biomedical and information technology. However, Orange County is now home to over 3 million people, has significant wealth, a major UC research institution (UC Irvine) as well many reputable mid-size biomedical and information technology companies. The only thing that was missing - until now - was an organization capable of tying it all together. Enter OCTANe.

OCTANe was formed in September 2002 by co-founders Dwight Decker, Chairman of Conexant Systems, Inc. and Tom Moebus, a former vice-chancellor of UCI. Since then, OCTANe has expanded to a team of five, and is now led by a Board of Directors that includes many of Orange County's most recognized and respected business leaders.

"Our biomedical technology sector is full of potential, but without a concerted effort to drive innovation Orange County will be left behind."
