The Entrepreneurs Forum at UC Irvine will provide an intimate and informative setting for faculty and researchers who are interested in the entrepreneurial process. Each lunch will feature a faculty member from UC Irvine or within the UC System who will share their experiences and advice on the technology transfer process and starting companies. Faculty will have the opportunity to actively participate in a spirited Q&A session with each speaker.
Marc Madou, Ph.D., Chancellor's Professor in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering at the UCI
Before joining UCI, Dr. Madou was Vice President of Advanced Technology at Nanogen in San Diego, California. Dr. Madou is one of the world leaders of miniaturization science (microelectro-mechanical systems (MEMS) and nano-electro-mechanical systems (NEMS)) with emphasis on chemical and biological applications. Current projects include polymer actuators (for drug delivery),carbon-made MEMS (C-MEMS) and CD-based fluidics. His expertise in the development of microfluidic platforms on compact disc (CD) will be pivotal for this proposed research program.
Marc Madou was the founder of the SRI International's Microsensor Department and also founder and President of Teknekron Sensor Development Corporation (TSDC), one of the first MEMS/BIOMEMS companies in the Silicon Valley. From the original TSDC team, people like Dr. Fariborz Maseeh (founder of IntelliSense) and Dr. Armand Neukermans (founder of Xros (acquired by Nortel) emerged as some of the most successful MEMS entrepreneurs. In 2006, He co-founded Carbon Micro Battery, a company focused on the delivery of micro-power for devices that require high capacity energy sources.
Complimentary lunch for those who RSVP by 1/11/07 and 1/25/07 respectively. Others, $15 at the door. This is a UCI staff and students event.
